Ponce, Puerto Rico – A Puerto Rican content creator with 138,038 followers across Facebook Pages and Groups has filed a federal lawsuit against Meta Platforms, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico.
The lawsuit alleges that Meta unlawfully suspended the plaintiff’s Facebook and Instagram accounts for 581 days in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512(g).
According to the complaint, on october 24 Meta removed content and suspended the accounts based on DMCA notices.
Under federal law § 512(g), Meta was required to restore the accounts within 10–14 business days unless a lawsuit was filed. Meta failed to comply and kept the accounts suspended for 581 days without legal justification, causing severe damage to the plaintiff’s digital business.
“This is not about money. This is about Meta thinking they can destroy the livelihood of a Puerto Rican creator with 138,038 followers for 581 days and face no consequences,” said the plaintiff. “I followed the law. Meta did not.”
The plaintiff seeks damages for Meta’s violation of federal law and for the destruction of his online business and community.
